Microsoft HoloLens
Microsoft has announced an Insider Preview for the MR device HoloLens. This update is called "RS5", which previously supported only English, but now supports Japanese and Simplified Chinese.
By switching to the Japanese version, Japanese input and Japanese voice recognition will be possible. To switch to the Japanese version, you must download the build of the required language to your PC and install it on Hololens using the Windows Device Recovery Tool (WDRT), and you cannot switch from the settings app. Also, be aware that the HoloLens data will be initialized when you install the Japanese version.
The language switching procedure for HoloLens is as follows.
1. Accepted to use Insider Preview with Windows account 2. Allowed Insider Preview with HoloLens, then updated to RS5 3. Download WDRT to PC 4. Simplified Chinese or Japanese, whichever package you like on your PC Download to 5. After the download is complete, select Explorer → Download. Right-click the downloaded Zip file to unzip it. 6. Connect Hololens to your PC using a microUSB cable. 7. Select Microsoft HoloLens because the device will be detected automatically. 8. Select “Manual package selection” on the next screen Select the installation file in the folder unzipped in step 5 (marked by the extension “.ffu”) 9. Select the software installation and install according to the procedure. 10. When the build installation is complete, Hololens setup will start automatically. Install Hololens and follow the guidance. When setup is complete, go to Settings → Update & Security → Windows Insider Program to get the latest version. Make sure it is set to the preview build of. This will update the Chinese / Japanese version to the latest preview build as well as the English version.
Input of Japanese and Simplified Chinese is supported only by the on-screen keyboard. Input using a Bluetooth-connected keyboard is not currently supported. However, even in the Japanese / Simplified Chinese version, English input using a Bluetooth-connected keyboard is possible.
In RS5, not only language support but also various functions of HoloLens have been updated. The following is the overall update content other than language support.
-Movie shooting stop function You can start / stop movie shooting from the start menu or quick action menu. Use Microsoft display adapter ・ New notification icon A notification icon appears on the screen of HoloLens, similar to PC operation.You can respond by looking at the icon. ・ You can use overlays such as "keyboard" to enter characters, "file picker" to select files, and "dialogs" to talk while using the overlay display app. ・ Volume control display HoloLens When you operate the volume button, the volume level is displayed as a picture on the display.-Display during loading A display indicating that is displayed while the program is loading.-Videos and photos taken with Nearby Sharing HoloLens can be viewed on a nearby Windows device. You can send data to ・ Share from Microsoft Edge You can share web contents using the "Share button" on the Internet browser application "Microsoft Edge".
